When veneer inlays decision, What do you put a foil backing?

Question says it all. I am interested in use of wood veneer to make some board as I ever found on the Internet, I see that people use to touch the rubber band paper "I searched and I can not get this product. You should not have to use a strip of paper (which can be obtained from most places offer the woodworking).
