How to preserve the paint faded or pie at the beginning of my antique furniture?

I purchased a larder early 1900, which has wonderful original paint is cracked off. I want to preserve the paint is there, but keeping the old shabby. I do not screen bright and new. Any suggestions?

Hi, I am a painter. without seeing your pantry again, I can not judge the severity Paint peeling. if it is not much to bare all (perhaps one or two points), you could probably get away with putting a couple layers (low gloss) polyurethane on it. if moderate or severe peeling must be removed .. First otherwise all you got on it, just take side with the painting. then you can use a finishing techniques many false duplicate their finish desired. I suggest take some pictures of your furniture and take them to your local paint store … NO Home Depot or Lowe. Shop deticated for children as they will have a better understanding for you. whatever method you do (unless you hire someone to do it for you) I suggest you first practice on other objects, to improve the desired finish. Good luck! and enjoy your new pantry. LJ
